Detecting Lies

Filed under: — Shane Thacker 11:20 am

A WikiHow article on How to Detect Lies.

My problem with the article? I do almost all of these, all the time. It’s called being nervous. For instance, #5 points out which direction a person is likely to look if they are telling the truth. I don’t care which direction I’m looking, I’m just looking away so I won’t think the person is staring at me. :)

The article DOES go onto say that this might be the actions of an “extremely shy person”. I don’t think that either of us could be called “extremely” shy — I mean, we do function well enough to be married and work demanding jobs — so “extremely” — not very. Of course, this could start my rant about American society not being complementary about differences in behavior and mood — we are all supposed to be laughing, happy extroverts with no thoughts in our heads except for consuming. Yeah, right.
